Hamn i Senja A proud Green Key certified business
As a guest at a Green Key certified business, you can be sure that the property has gone to great lengths to ensure that your stay is as comfortable and enjoyable as possible while constantly working to minimise environmental impact.
Green Key certified companies meet strict environmental requirements in the following 13 areas: environmental management, staff involvement, guest information, water, washing and cleaning, waste, energy, food, indoor climate, outdoor areas, social responsibility, environmental activities and administration.
A Green Key accommodation has also facilitated that you, as a guest, can make environmentally friendly choices, including by offering organic, locally produced, or Fairtrade-labelled food, through encouragement to reuse towels, etc.
The purpose of Green Key is to promote sustainable tourism, as well as to help prevent climate change by rewarding and supporting businesses that implement positive environmental measures. Green Key aims to change the practices and behaviours of tourism actors, including guests, businesses, governments, and local communities, in a sustainable direction. This is done by raising awareness among both employees and guests, by promoting sustainable routines and the use of technology, by supporting environmentally friendly and responsible companies, reducing energy use and resource consumption.
Green Key is one of the largest global environmental certification schemes for accommodation with over 5900 certified companies in over 70 countries. The scheme is the only environmental certification for accommodation in Norway that has achieved the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) Recognized award. Several Norwegian hotels and campsites are certified, and the number is increasing rapidly. See an overview of certified companies on the international Green Key website.
